A day that highlights the importance of the county’s constitution, Thailand Constitution Day 2020 will take place next month. This annual event which is held on 10th December is a national holiday and on this day, it is customary to see parades, fireworks and displays of kings of Thailand. Apart from taking in the festivities, visitors in the Thai capital can also head to the Democracy Monument, within easy reach of properties like Emporium Suites by Chatrium; this attraction on Ratchadamnoen Avenue which can be accessed by those staying at such a 5 star Bangkok hotel, features a representation of the constitution from 1932 which was the first of its kind in the country.
Before the constitution came about, Thailand was governed by an absolute monarchy; however, after a bloodless coup, the monarch at the time, King Prajadhipok or Rama VII, bestowed a permanent constitution on 10th December 1932 to the Thai people for a more democratic government system.
