Discussions are under way to make travel insurance in Thailand compulsory. This new policy is to be implemented towards the end of the year, with tourists obliged to buy the policy from the airport as soon as they land. The policy will cost 20 baht for a cover of 30 days, according to the Thai Office of the Insurance Commission.

For those tourists looking to visit a steakhouse in Bangkok, the likes of Benihana Thailand and experience the culture, will have to adhere to the policy once it has been implemented. However, even though the policy is a compulsory purchase, it isn’t to be used as a replacement for travel insurance.
