Thailand Eases Travel Restrictions – New Sandbox Areas Under Consideration

Due to a slower infection rate, Thailand lowered its COVID-19 alert level at the beginning of this year with more easing of restrictions on the cards; this was reported on the Reuters news website on 18th January 2022 which highlighted that the country was also looking to establish new “sandbox” areas for tourists to enjoy quarantine-free holidays with certain stipulations in place. Amongst these destinations were Chiang Mai, Samut Prakan and Khon Kaen. The latter is a popular place to visit in North-eastern Thailand and for those based at a city hotel, Khon Kaen has much to offer; this includes safe accommodation at properties like the SHA+ certified Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre ideal for both business and leisure.

As reported by Reuters in January this year, the Thai government reduced its COVID-19 alert level from four to three on its five-level system. Subsequently, the government additionally resumed its Test & Go programme from 1st February 2022 which was open to fully vaccinated tourists from all countries.
