Thailand Enjoys Tourism Revenue Boost for Songkran – Phuket One of the Key Festival Locations

Thailand’s popular Songkran Festival has delivered a resounding economic victory, exceeding initial projections with a total revenue haul of 140.335 billion baht. This news comes as a welcome boost for the nation’s tourism industry. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Sudawan Wangsupakitkosol, the festival attracted nearly two million international tourists (1,926,443) alongside a staggering 13.8 million domestic trips (13,897,988). Tourists from China, Malaysia, India, Russia, and South Korea flocked to Thailand for the festivities, solidifying their positions as the top five source markets.

This year’s Songkran celebrations saw an exciting extension, with 15 designated locations hosting special “Maha Songkran” events from the 1st to the 21st of April 2024. This initiative aimed to highlight, promote, and preserve Thailand’s rich Songkran traditions, following UNESCO’s recognition of the festival as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage.” Phuket, a perennial tourist favourite, was among the chosen destinations and witnessed a surge in both domestic and international visitors. Beach properties here like Anantara Layan Phuket Resort continue to be a major draw for tourists seeking the quintessential Thai experience. With the chance to stay at a luxury villa in Phuket and enjoy relaxation, adventure and nightlife, the island’s allure ensures Songkran’s success extends beyond the festival period.
