Thailand Expects Over 1M Tourists for Lunar New Year – China Remains a Key Source Market 

During the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, which will be from 8th to 16th February 2024, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is expecting to welcome over a million international visitors, providing a boost for local tourism. From this number, approximately 195,825 travellers are expected to be from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong which will be an increase of around 137% when compared with the same period in 2023. The reasons for such a positive outlook can be attributed to aspects such as increased flight availability and Thailand’s decision to implement a visa waiver policy for tourists from China which runs up to 29th February 2024.

China is a key source market for tourism in Thailand and with the governments of both nations agreeing to permanently waive visa requirements for citizens from each country, more Chinese visitors can be expected this year.
