Thailand Holds Durian Festival to Improve China Trade – Appreciating The King of Fruits
A large durian festival was held in June, in the Chumphon province, a key durian-producing area in Thailand. The event was held to promote Thailand’s durian and improve durian trade with China. It was attended by several guests including the Chinese Counsel General in Songkhla Wu Dongmei, representatives from Chinese logistics companies and various fruit dealers.
The festival also celebrated the beginning of the Chumphon durian harvest season for 2024, with Governor Wisah Poolsirirat ceremoniously cutting a durian in half to mark the occasion. The Governor further renewed Thailand’s commitment to improving the quality of the fruit and making it a popular choice among Chinese consumers.
Chumphon is the largest durian-producing area in the country, producing over half the quantity of fruit for the entire region during peak season from June to December. As a result, durian is one of the more popular fruits in the country and is an ingredient in many salads, main dishes and desserts. Visitors can try various durian-flavoured desserts and dishes at any of the restaurants in Thailand. However, those staying in resorts like Chatrium Golf Resort Soi Dao Chanthaburi, which is a luxury Chanthaburi golf hotel, can venture out onto the streets where they’ll find plenty of restaurants and food stalls that offer durian and several durian-inspired delicacies and desserts.
