Due to the many complaints and incidents regarding environmental damage in the recent years, a new law aimed to reduce environmental pollution will take in to effect immediately on the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. According to Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the law strictly prohibits feeding marine life, fishing or anchoring on coral reefs, wastewater dumping and new seaside construction.
Even though resorts like Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas which is a resort hotel in Koh Phangan, along many other resorts located in these islands have come up with many initiatives to protect these ecosystems, the quantity of waste disposed in the sea and the damage done to the environment still remains unchanged. Environmentalists and the islanders believe that the newly implemented law will help protect the environment from further damages and improve the quality of islands ecosystems.
