Regional travel momentum continues to strengthen Thailand’s position as a leading Asian destination
Thailand’s tourism sector continues its upward climb in 2026, welcoming more than 8.24 million short-haul travellers between January 1 and May 16, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). China emerged as the country’s largest source market, while arrivals from ASEAN nations, South Asia, and the South Pacific also showed notable growth.
Tourism officials credit the rise to expanded flight connections, targeted seasonal campaigns, and increasing demand for nearby leisure destinations. Popular hotspots such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket are seeing stronger hotel occupancy and increased activity across hospitality and retail sectors. Interest in experiences such as wellness retreats, entertainment travel, and dining continues to shape visitor preferences.
As tourism momentum builds, hospitality venues such as Age Restaurant in Phuket reflect the growing appeal of premium culinary experiences offered by a restaurant in Phuket alongside the country’s wider tourism offerings.
