Thailand Slips Down in WEF Travel & Tourism Index: Challenging Times Ahead
The latest Travel and Tourism Development Index by the World Economic Forum saw Thailand fall from 36th place to 47th, after a growth of just 1.5% in the first quarter of 2024.
The index presents an analytical overview of the travel and tourism industry of a nation based on 5 key pillars – business environment, safety and security, health and hygiene, human resources, and labour market. Despite Thailand having several attractions, luxury hotels and even resorts in Khaoyai like the esteemed Lacol Khaoyai, the index results indicate that there is a further need for improvement.
In response to the results, several leaders in Thailand’s hospitality industry have suggested potential strategies, including the expansion of transportation infrastructure, increased focus on sustainability, modernisation of accommodation facilities, and a better approach to attracting international flights.
