Thailand Travels on the Road to Recovery as COVID-19 Entry Restrictions Lift

As reported on the Phuket News on the 25th of June 2022, luxury hotels in Phuket have been delighted as tourism barriers were lifted for travelling to resume as normally as possible. This in turn has resulted in a significant inflow of tourists to hotels like Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, which had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of their guests for the past two years since the pandemic took a toll on many industries, tourism being one of the most affected.

As the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) in Thailand announced on the 17th of June 2022, travellers were no longer required to carry the Thailand Certificate Pass of Entry. While the country welcomed 40 million travellers in 2019, the number fell to less than 1% of that amount due to the pandemic, which was a massive loss to an industry that contributes to 12% of Thailand’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and therefore, the relaxation of entry barriers will be the first step to the country’s road to recovery.
