Thailand’s Annual Lantern Festival To Return: Loy Krathong Festivities in November
Typically held on the 12th month of the lunar calendar, Thailand’s Loy Krathong festivities are set to return in November, with cities across the country observing the lantern festival. Small offerings illuminated by candles are sent floating down rivers and canals, constructed from banana leaves decorated with various adornments, including flowers, incense, and occasionally coins.
Loy Krathong, at its core, is a celebration of the multifaith foundations of religion in Thailand, intended to honour deities from Hinduism and Buddhism while incorporating ancient beliefs of spirits and agricultural blessings. In Bangkok, elaborate floating altars and attractions can be found along the city’s famed Chao Phraya River, hosted by nearby properties and establishments. Residents staying at a riverside serviced apartment in Bangkok can access nearby piers and waterfront areas to participate in the festivities, including at Asiatique the Riverfront, located 5 minutes from Chatrium Residence Riverside Bangkok.
