The Ambitious Plan to Boost Omani Tourism – Tapping into a Lucrative Market

According to the Oman 2040 Economic Vision, the sultanate is expecting to earn $22.5 billion (9 billion rials) annually from tourism by 2040; this was highlighted on The National news website on 12th December 2021 which revealed that this was part of a plan to diversify the economic rather than being primarily dependant on oil income. Speaking to The National, the Undersecretary of Tourism in the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Maitha Al Mahrouqi, mentioned that Oman is planning to initiate many tourism investments across the country; these include entertainment centres, theme parks, water parks and nature tourism-based attractions.

Maitha Al Mahrouqi, who was presiding over the Oman-Saudi Arabia Tourism Investment Meeting in December 2021, commented further that the sultanate was looking to tap into regional tourism from GCC countries as well including Saudi Arabia. Oman continues its post-pandemic tourism recovery with hotels in Muscat including those based in Seeb such as Avani Muscat Hotel offering travellers a chance to enjoy safe stays while experiencing the best of this destination.
