Attracting many enthusiastic runners, the Coronation Marathon 2017 was held on 2nd June 2017 in Paro, Bhutan. Organized by the Bhutan Amateur Athletic Federation, this event is held annually to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty the third king of Bhutan. Titled as an “Open Marathon” until 2008, the Coronation Marathon celebrated its 10th edition in Paro this year. Those who were based in a nearby accommodation option be it a budget or a luxury Bhutan hotel such as the well placed COMO Uma Paro had the opportunity to witness this exciting and historic event. A major event in the Bhutanese cultural calendar, this marathon also welcomes the nation’s professional runners. A local long-distance runner and a member of the Royal Bhutan Army, Sangay Wangchuk had previously set the record time of 2:52 at the Third Coronation Marathon in 2010.
