The Launch of Homestay Tourism in the Maldives – Private Resorts Still A Key Choice

The Maldives began an initiative this month whereby it began providing homestay options for tourists. It should be noted, however, that when it comes to an accommodation choice, a beach resort Maldives has to offer on a private island is still widely popular with tourists; such properties like Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives continue to feature secluded getaways that follow strict health and safety protocols.

With the homestay concept, certain islands will give guests a chance to say at local homes. This was initially launched in Meemu Dhiggaru and is expected to be offered on islands in other atolls as well. As highlighted last September on the Travel Trade Maldives website, Mr. Abdulla Mausoom, the Maldivian Tourism Minister, had visited atolls such as Meemu, Dhaalu, Haa Alif and Baa to gather information about beginning the homestay concept. It will be hoped that such initiatives along with the private resorts will attract more tourists to the country this year.
