The Maldives was hailed by My Baggage as being the most Instagrammed tourist destination in the world as of February this year. The country claimed this title by having the greatest number of hashtags which totalled 8.8 million; second and third place on the list were the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Times Square in New York which came in with 6.5 million and 4.4 million hashtags respectively.
Additionally, the country has also become a hotspot for celebrities and Instagram influencers looking for post-COVID-19 getaways; this includes private island resorts such as Kandolhu Maldives where they can enjoy coastal serenity and stays at luxurious ocean villas. This popularity was further highlighted in April 2021 when Indian actress Shraddha Kapoor shared a post on Instagram of a holiday to the Maldives while also celebrating the achievement of reaching 60 million followers.
