The Maldives Plans to Launch Vaccine Tourism – Vaccinating Locals the First Priority

In a novel campaign that is to be launched in the future, the Maldives is looking to promote vaccine tourism; travellers will not only be able to look forward to a holiday but receive the COVID-19 vaccination as well. According to local authorities, the campaign will focus on what is being called the ‘three Vs’ namely ‘Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation’. However, the local government has also stressed that such an initiative will be launched only once the entire population has been vaccinated, which is seen as the immediate priority.

The country has already secured enough vaccines for the population and is rolling out vaccination drives including for resort workers; at the end of May this year, 67% of them had received both vaccine doses, while at the beginning of June 2021, the first dose had been administered to 96% of resort workers. Additionally, the best resorts in Maldives including the likes of Grand Park Kodhipparu, Maldives have strict hygiene standards and enhanced cleanliness measures to ensure safe stays for all.
