Boosting the local hospitality industry, the Maldives has recorded a significant 18% growth in tourist arrivals from January to May when compared to the same period in 2018. During the first five months of 2019, tourist arrivals were recorded as 749,114 as opposed to 632,729 last year. This information was presented by Ali Waheed, the Tourism Minister of the Maldives while speaking at a press conference in June this year. Also of note was that in the month of May there was a 10.9% increase in arrivals with China being the main contributor.

In recent years, tourist numbers have shown signs of continual growth as travellers look to enjoy a luxury holiday in Maldives. While there are over 130 resorts in the country at the moment including properties such as Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas, an additional 140 are under development as well.
