India has always been a source market for the Maldives and it has remained so in 2020 as well. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Tourism, India seized the number one position of the leading source markets for the Maldives by the end of last year, with a record number of 62,905 tourists spending their holidays in the island nation; be it at the beach bungalows, guesthouses, or Maldives five-star hotels the likes of Adaaran Prestige Vadoo.
The growth acceleration could be attributed to the myriad of travel restrictions over the world due to the pandemic as well as the air travel bubble that was launched between India and the Maldives. These factors have contributed in terms of creating an opportunity to schedule additional flights from India, providing a gateway for many Indian tourists to access the paradisiacal landscapes of the Maldives. Authorities believe that year 2021 will be a much better year for the Maldives in terms of tourism; this is due to the splendid numbers of tourist arrivals recorded during the first three months of 2021.
