The Maldives to Expand Market Reach – Measures for a Rapid Tourism Recovery

Maldives has been looking for methods to expedite their tourism recovery after the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. Among many other measures, broader market reach is in the pipeline as the Maldives lost its main source market, China, after the pandemic. The 16.7% of arrivals that were from China are expected to be covered by reaching new markets. Despite the global challenges, the number of travellers to the island has significantly gone up, including Russians.

The government is targeting around 1.6 million arrivals this year, and countries like UK and Italy are included in the leading source markets. Every Maldives resort has been experiencing a rise in bookings, including the most popular ones such as Kurumba Maldives. Along with tourism, the island’s business, sports, culture, and economy are anticipated to grow in the coming years.
