The Maldives Welcomes Over One Million Tourists – On Track for Its 1.6 Million Target

The Maldives has already recorded over one million tourists this year continuing its remarkable recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. The one-millionth tourist, a Czech Republic national, was recorded on 13th August 2022; according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism, by the end of that month, arrivals had hit 1,078,635 for the year which was an increase of 42.7% compared with the same period (1st January to 31st August) last year. At the time, India was the top source market for arrivals followed by Russia and the United Kingdom.

Such travellers enjoy easy entry to this popular holiday destination where they can stay at private island resorts like The Residence Maldives ideal for couples and families alike. For those in search of event venues, Maldives resorts also offer options for meetings, presentations, seminars and other corporate functions amidst unique coastal settings. This increase in arrivals bodes well for the country which is looking to achieve its goal of recording 1.6 million tourists for 2022; this coincides with the fact that the Maldives is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year of tourism, marking 50 years since tourism started here.
