Continuing to showcase just how popular it is as a tourist destination, the Maldives won four prestigious accolades at the World Travel Awards 2021 including the coveted ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination’; of note, was that it has secured this award 13 times in the last 17 years. The list of winners which were announced on 21st October 2021 saw the country also being voted as the Indian Ocean’s ‘Leading Dive Destination’ and ‘Leading Beach Destination’; additionally, the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation was adjudged the winner of the ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board’.
Amongst the phenomenal tourism success stories in the world following the pandemic, the country continues to offer memorable holidays in the Maldives; beach resort options on private islands including the likes of Dhigali Maldives provide safe accommodation along with unique experiences. By the end of 2021, this South Asian destination had recorded over one million arrivals and will hope to exceed that figure in 2022.
