On the 2nd and 3rd of February the ever-famous Navam Perehera, a parade that displays the magnificent cultural extravaganza of Sri Lanka, promenaded the streets of Colombo. The Navam Perehera is definitely an experience to include in your Sri Lanka holidays and with a premier tour operator like Sri Lanka Holiday Travel you can enjoy the splendor of the parade.
Held annually to commemorate the Navam Full Moon Poya, the parade is organized by the historic Gangaramaya Temple and displays the rich religious and cultural tradition of Sri Lanka. Over 5,000 traditional Sri Lankan dancers and performers such as torch bearers, whip crackers, drummers, dancers, acrobats and many others took part in the parade. There is no Sri Lankan perehera without elephants and in the Navam Perahera as well there were almost 100 elephants marching including the majestic tusker who carried the gilded casket that holds the sacred relics.
