Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry which was severely affected following the Easter Sunday bombings this year had cause to be somewhat optimistic as the United States recently downgraded its travel advisory warning. Shortly after the terrorist attacks in April, a ‘Level 3’ warning was issued whereby American citizens were advised to reconsider travelling to Sri Lanka. However, after monitoring the situation and the ongoing efforts of the country’s security forces, the travel advisory was lessened to ‘Level 2’ which advises travellers to exercise increased caution.

Tourism arrivals which were on the increase this year took a steep downturn after the Easter Sunday attack. It will be hoped that tourist numbers will start to pick up as travellers look to once again explore Sri Lanka. Boutique hotel options be it in Mirissa at properties such as Lantern Boutique Hotel or Kandy in the hill country continue to be popular amongst travellers and remain open for business.
