The Victorious Maldivian National Day was Celebrated in September 2022

The Maldives celebrated its National Day, also known as Qaumee Dhuvas in their mother tongue, Divehi on the 26th of September 2022. A day of victory and celebration, Qaumee Dhuvas is carried out in spirits of high festivity, which can be witnessed from most 5-star resorts in Maldives. Therefore, guests residing at resorts like Adaaran Prestige Water Villas can catch a glimpse of the National Day and its significance to the locals from the comfort of their lodgings.

The event celebrates Maldives’s victory over the Portuguese rule which spanned over a period of 15 years. In the year 1558, the Portuguese invaded the Maldives by defeating the local Sultan. However, an army led by Muhammad Thakurufaanu was able to regain the country’s independence in the year 1573. The commemorative date of the National Day is based on the Islamic lunar calendar, and therefore will have an approximate 10-day difference in the date every year.
