The World Bank Highlights the Maldives’ Remarkable Recovery – Exemplary Tourism Turnaround

In an online article featured this January on the official World Bank Blogs (https://blogs.worldbank.org), the Maldives was singled out for its remarkable tourism recovery following the pandemic. Amongst the key aspects focused on was how the global pandemic had led to the increasing popularity of remote working in such destinations. It also highlighted that while tourism and business travel were adversely affected on a global scale, the Maldives was able to bounce back; in fact, in 2021, it registered over 80% visitor arrivals when compared with pre-COVID levels, performing far better than other popular destinations.

There were several factors attributed to this tourism recovery; these included the policies of the government, the early reopening of borders, implementation of stringent hygiene measures for travellers and having one of the world’s fastest COVID-19 vaccination campaigns. Currently, travellers can enjoy quarantine-free holidays here at some of the best resorts in Maldives; such private island properties the likes of Grand Park Kodhipparu have enhanced hygiene and cleanliness protocols as well as villas with complimentary high-speed internet that offer safe stays and ideal remote working opportunities.
