Tourism Boost Expected in Maldives Following PM Modi’s Visit
Stronger ties, brighter horizons: Maldives welcomes a new wave of tourism
Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu has expressed optimism that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit will strengthen bilateral ties and significantly boost tourism in the Maldives. Calling India one of the island nation’s “closest and most trusted partners,” Muizzu highlighted India’s crucial role in supporting Maldivian tourism and economic growth.
Speaking after Modi’s two-day visit, during which he attended the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations as Guest of Honour, Muizzu emphasised that the people-to-people connection between the two countries will deepen further. He also revealed hopes of finalising a free trade agreement with India soon, noting that discussions are already underway.
India extended a ₹4,850 crore Line of Credit to the Maldives, and multiple MoUs were signed during the visit, marking a reset in relations after a period of strain.

With renewed cooperation, destinations such as Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu and many other Maldives 5 star resorts — all inclusive continue to deliver world-class hospitality, ensuring travellers experience the Maldives’ signature blend of luxury, relaxation, and natural beauty.
