Tourism in the Maldives Back to Pre-Covid Levels – Country Closes in on 1M Arrivals

Continuing its remarkable recovery since the global pandemic, the tourism industry in the Maldives has notched up another milestone by reaching pre-Covid levels. From December 2022 to March 2023, the total arrivals were more than 170,000 which mirrored figures three years ago, before the pandemic. This, in turn, has provided a significant boost to the nation’s GDP. This positive trend has continued as the Maldives nears the one million mark in terms of tourists welcomed in 2023.

As of 6th June 2023, the country recorded 832,169 arrivals for the year which reflected an increase of 14.7% when compared with the same period in 2022. This momentum is expected to continue as the nation looks to achieve its year-end goal of 1.8 million arrivals. Returning tourists are once more enjoying stays at the top resorts in Maldives catering to families and couples alike; these include private island properties such as Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives where guests can experience the best of this idyllic holiday destination.
