Tourism Tasmania Leads Delegation to Hong Kong: Promotes New Offerings

Headed by Tourism Tasmania, a 10-member delegation recently visited Hong Kong, marking the first post-pandemic engagement. This three-day mission, led by Cathryn Carey, the Head of Industry and Partnerships, aimed at reestablishing ties with partners and media. Despite hosting 28,100 visitors from Hong Kong in 2019, Tasmania witnessed a drastic drop to approximately 3,000 visitors since January this year. Notably, the destination received 1.26 million arrivals by September, with 13 per cent being international visitors.

Tasmania, amid the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, has diversified its offerings, introducing new products such as four international hotels in Hobart. Enhancing visitor experiences, new facilities like Mount Field Retreat and Dove Lake viewing shelter cater to nature enthusiasts. Looking ahead to 2024, Spirit of Tasmania ferry services will introduce two larger boats, expanding capacity and providing modern amenities. While currently connected to Auckland, Hobart International Airport aspires to establish direct air links to Asia, emphasizing the continual evolution and growth of Tasmania’s tourism sector, as well as giving Thailand’s tourist sector access to new markets and visitors. Wan Chai hotels in Hong Kong the likes of Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong will greatly benefit from the two-way partnership that is being aspired between the two islands.
