In August this year, Tourism Tropical North Queensland sought wage support for the industry which was facing tough times due to pandemic and lockdown restrictions. In answer to this appeal, in the same month, the Australian, as well as Queensland governments, agreed upon a joint funding package; worth $600 million, this support package was a welcome initiative and will provide small to medium enterprises in tourism with some much-needed aid.
The local tourism industry was further bolstered with the launch of the Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Travel Bonus campaign on 18th September 2021; set up to encourage domestic visitors, it offers an added $250 for tours for those planning to spend over $1,000 on their holiday here booked via My Queensland, Viva Holidays or Flight Centre. Tropical North Queensland continues to be a popular destination offering safe hotel accommodation in Cairns; those based at such properties including Oaks Cairns Hotel have much to discover in this captivating city before visiting famed attractions like the Great Barrier Reef.
