Tourist Arrivals Increase in Maldives

Positive Signs for 2021

2020 ended on a positive note for the tourism industry in the Maldives as visitor numbers showed a systematic growth following the reopening of the country’s borders. The country was one of many popular tourist destinations around the world which was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic that led to almost four months of border closures from March last year.

After the country reopened its borders in July 2020, tourists were once more able to visit the Maldives; resort properties on private islands the likes of Kurumba Maldives offered and continue to provide ideal and safe accommodation options as well. The trend of increasing tourist numbers took place month after month; when it came to arrivals there were 7,628 in August, 9,538 in September, 21,515 in October and 35,708 in November; December numbers are expected to be high as well, a promising sign as 2021 begins.
