The number of Chinese tourists visiting the Maldives has shown significant growth; this is according to recent statistics released by the country’s Tourism Ministry. According to the data, in May this year, a total of 21,010 tourists from China arrived in Maldives which was a huge 24.1% increase in comparison with the same period last year. Taking the first five months of 2019 into account, arrivals from China totalled 116,282 which were more than last year when Chinese arrivals were at 104,559 by the end of May.
It is not just the Chinese market that has contributed to growth in tourist arrivals, however. In fact, for the period between January and May in 2019, the country recorded an increase of a little over 18% in arrivals as opposed to the same period in 2018. In Maldives, luxury hotel and resort options such as Naladhu Private Island Maldives continue to attract tourists and it is hoped visitor numbers will keep rising.
