Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka cross 900,000-mark – Success within 8 months in 2023

In a promising turn of events, Sri Lanka has witnessed a significant resurgence in its tourism sector, with tourist arrivals surpassing the 900,000 mark as of August 30th, 2023. These encouraging figures, revealed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), indicate a notable rebound from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent economic and political crises.

According to SLTDA, 900,708 tourists have visited the country this year, marking a substantial increase compared to the 719,978 total arrivals reported for the entire year of 2022. Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, a vital contributor to foreign exchange earnings, is now setting its sights on a robust recovery by targeting 2 million visitors in 2023.  Many of the best Sri Lanka hotels including properties by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts have already been booked for the month of December signally a good end to this year.

While acknowledging the setbacks faced in recent times, Sri Lanka remains optimistic about the future of its tourism sector. The resilience demonstrated in surpassing last year’s total arrivals signals a positive trajectory for the nation’s efforts to restore its standing as a preferred travel destination.
