Tourist Arrivals to the Maldives Increase – Positive Signs for Further Growth in 2023

Continuing its remarkable turnaround after the global pandemic hit in 2020, the Maldives has steadily recorded an increasing number of tourists this year. In fact, in July 2022, arrivals to the country reached 129,233 which was an increase of 0.8% when compared to the same period in 2019 before the pandemic. While other months have also seen an upward trend in arrivals, they haven’t been able to quite surpass 2019 figures though they are catching up and the prospects for 2023 are very promising.

By the end of September 2022, the country had over 1,157,000 international visitors; this bodes well as it looks to reach its target of 1.6 million arrivals, a figure stated by Maldivian President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in February this year during his presidential address. With the popular winter season underway, travellers can look to enjoy a tropical getaway at a resort in Maldives; such private island properties include the likes of Dhigali Maldives that not only feature the key experiences of this destination but safe accommodation with strict health and hygiene protocols in place.
