Tourist Numbers to Sri Lanka on the Rise – 2M Visitors Expected by Year’s End

A positive sign for the local tourism industry, Sri Lanka has seen a steady increase of travellers, eager to enjoy holidays on this popular island destination once more. According to the SLTDA (Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority), the country recorded 335,679 visitors in the first quarter of the year; from January to March, there were more than 100,000 arrivals each month with tourism earnings totalling $ 529.8 million. This positive trend continued in April, and it’s hoped that it will carry on in the months to come as Sri Lanka looks to achieve its goal of reaching two million tourists in 2023.

To draw more travellers, the country has also taken part in several roadshows at key destinations; this included a roadshow in China in April 2023, the first one there since the pandemic.
