Tourist Zones Being Established in Sri Lanka – One Step Towards the Goals of 2023

Tourism Minister Harin Fernando announced his intentions to establish tourist zones in Sri Lanka in 2023, an initiative that is progressing since the beginning of the year. The minister expressed his concerns about the lack of tourist zones and how it affects the industry and mentioned his plans to gazette these in the new year. Under the gazette, Haputale, Mirissa, Ella and more areas will be declared tourist zones. The discussion with President Ranil Wickremesinghe resulted in instructions for officials to work on this goal this year.

Sri Lanka is home to many destinations that attract tourists such as Ella, Mirissa, Unawatuna, Nuwara Eliya, and Negombo. Hotels in these areas such as Heritance Negombo are likely to be experiencing a high demand for the season as the island opens up for new experiences every day.
