Tourists Continue to Arrive in the Maldives – Positive Signs for the Industry

As revealed by the Tourism Ministry in Maldives, a total of 40,426 tourists arrived in the country in the first two weeks of January 2021 as reported by Travel Trade Maldives. On arrival, travellers do not have to quarantine and are granted a 30-day free visa; however, they must present a negative PCR test for COVID-19 that has been taken within 96 hours before leaving for the Maldives.

Tourists also have the freedom to stay at an accommodation of their choice including a private island luxury hotel Maldives has to offer. The country has adopted stringent hygiene and health procedures too including at resorts such as Velassaru Maldives. The result has been a steady increase of arrivals since the borders opened last year and it’s a welcome boost for the tourism industry which like for other nations, was hard-hit due to COVID-19.
