Tourists trickle into Sri Lanka after 10-month closure – SL Tourism gets a boost

Due to the COVID -19 outbreak, Sri Lanka was not open for international tourists for over 10 months. In January 2021, the country reopened its borders under strict health and safety regulations. It received 2700 visitors in February 2021 and the majority of them were from the countries like China, Ukraine, Germany, Russia, and Belarus.

Local tourism in the country is seeing positive progress, and hotels and resorts including every hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka the likes of Earl’s Regency Kandy receive many local visitors especially during weekends. The vaccination program has already started in the country, and this will ensure the safety of the locals in the time to come. Authorities believe that international tourist arrivals will soon increase in the future.
