Travel resurgence results in an increased number of visitors to Abu Dhabi

During the second quarter of 2022, passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport nearly doubled due to a boom in demand and the relaxation of travel restrictions in important global markets. According to Francois Bourienne, chief commercial officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, in an exclusive interview with The National, the airport handled 3.6 million passengers in the three months ending in June, a rise of nearly fivefold over the same quarter last year.

Reduced requirements for Covid-19 testing, the reopening of important markets like the UK, Saudi Arabia, and India, as well as a quicker-than-expected recovery in business travel, according to Mr Bourienne, are the main drivers of the development. Abu Dhabi resorts such as the unique Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara and many others in the country can expect a huge influx of visitors.
