U.S. Funding to Boost Tourism in Tunisia – Appeal to Increase Flights from the UK Too

Through the United States Agency for International Development, the tourism sector in Tunisia received $50 million from the U.S. government which will be used to revamp the industry and attract more travellers; this was revealed on the Skift travel industry news website in September this year that also highlighted that this was part of “Visit Tunisia”, a key five-year project. The aim is to promote Tunisia as a destination that has diverse experiences as well as to create new source markets and increase the year-round arrivals figure.

Tourists have much to look forward to on their visit to Tunisia; sightseeing highlights include religious sites, the Sahara, filming locations for blockbuster movies like Star Wars and well-preserved Carthaginian and Roman ruins within easy reach of properties like The Residence Tunis. A further boost to the tourism industry is expected as the country also looks to get more flights from the UK as was put in the spotlight on the Travel Weekly website on 8th November 2022. It revealed that the General Director at the Tunisian National Tourist Office, Nizar Slimane, had appealed to airlines to increase their capacity to this destination; the goal is for Tunisia to record a 50% increase in UK tourists in 2023 when compared with 2022.
