UK Lifts Travel Restrictions to Sri Lanka

COVID-19 Tensions Begin to Ease

On the 27th of July, 2020, the Hotels Association of Sri Lanka welcomed the news of the easing of travel restriction by the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka. This was seen as an acknowledgment of how the country has been able to successfully deal with the outbreak of the virus. Additionally, this provides much more opportunities for Sri Lanka’s travel industry to bounce back after being hit hard due to travel bans and nationwide lockdowns.

In 2019, it was reported that the United Kingdom served as the largest source of tourism for Sri Lanka. This was supported by a massive upswing of arrivals that numbered almost 200,000. Sri Lanka resorts and popular hotel chains such as the Browns Hotel & Resorts now have the chance to welcome back tourists to the nation and hopefully get back to the way things were last year.
