Unidentified Animal Found In Sinharaja Jungle – A Mysterious Discovery

The jungle of Sinharaja in Sri Lanka holds many wonders and beauties. Due to a recent report, it seems that the jungle holds mystery as well. On the 29th of February 2016, wildlife officials rushed in reply to a call from the locals of a nearby village who reported seeing a strange animal in the jungle. On their arrival, the officials had been completely baffled. What they had seen was the carcass of an animal that they had never seen before.

Wildlife enthusiasts with the aid of local safari guides such as Mahoora Tented Safari Camps have often reported on seeing extraordinary creatures in the Sinharaja Jungle, but nothing as groundbreaking as this has ever been reported. The creature discovered last month looks like a hybrid of a golden mongoose or polecat. Weighing around 3.3 kgs and measuring 60 centimetres, the animal is devoid of a tail and bears yellow-black-brown fur.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation says that either the strange creature could be a new mammal species which has not been recorded previously or it could be a product due to a gene mutation. The mystery continues as investigations are ongoing…
