Crowding the streets with stalls featuring a wide array of sweet cakes, noodle soups and other traditional dishes, the Vegetarian Festival in Bangkok is scheduled to be held from the 20th to 28th October 2017. An incredible chance to sample local dishes, the festival also provides a great opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of vibrantly decorated temples and shrines and the Chinese Opera organized on Charoen Krung Road.
Those based at a Sukhumvit hotel in the city such as Emporium Suites by Chatrium will be easily able to witness this culturally and religiously prominent event in Thailand. Primarily a celebration to venerate the Nine Emperor Gods, the festival is scheduled for the ninth Chinese lunar month every year. The locals refrain from consuming meat, fish, poultry and dairy during the nine days of the festival in order to cleanse themselves. Celebrated by a majority of those with Chinese ancestry, the event is also famous for ritualised mutilation including tongue slashing and face piercings.
