Maldives Velana International Airport recently welcomed its new 3.4 km runaway. With the airport serving as one of the main gateways for tourists visiting the Maldives, the newest addition to the airport is expected to accommodate an increasing number of visitors. Further, the recently opened runaway and the improved taxiway which runs parallel to it will enable the Maldives to accommodate more flights and larger aircraft into the country leading to increased tourism growth in the future. Additionally, the country’s efforts to attract more high-end tourists will materialize through unbeatable stay packages offered by Maldives 5-star resorts the likes of lavish Amilla Maldives. Interestingly, the new International passenger terminal once completed is anticipated to shelter aero boarding bridges, retail spaces, an array of food and beverage outlets, modern baggage handling systems and more. With Maldives expecting to witness the arrival of at least 7.3 million tourists by the end of 2030, the expansion of the runaway is predicted to ensure the smooth operation of airlines and an overall elevated experience for the passengers.
