The island nation of Maldives which is today one of the best tourist destinations in the world, has a past that is unknown to many of its tourists. Apart from being a colony under the British rule, the country also went through political turbulence in the following years. Victory Day was declared in commemoration of the successful defeat of the Sri terrorist group which tried to overthrow the island’s government on 3rd November, 1988. As the island and its inhabitants celebrate this day, it has not forgotten its past while looking to the future. Thanks to its booming tourism sector offering exotic Maldives luxury resorts which can be experienced through such travel specialists as Vacation Maldives, it is little surprise that the country has become one of the leading destination brands in the global hospitality industry.
