Vietnam is taking significant strides to revitalise its tourism sector with a plan to expand visa exemptions for international travellers. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed waiving visa requirements for several countries, emphasising the importance of streamlining travel procedures and attracting more foreign arrivals.
Currently, Vietnam offers visa-free entry to citizens of 25 countries and grants a three-month tourist visa to all other nationalities. Additionally, in August 2023, the country extended visa-free stays to 45 days for visitors from 13 countries, including the UK, France, South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Germany. While specific destinations for potential visa waivers have not been announced, Vietnam’s proactive approach demonstrates its commitment to boosting tourism and achieving its goal of welcoming 18 million international tourists by the end of 2024.
The country is continuing to attract travellers from around the world looking to enjoy its rich heritage, culture, natural beauty and cuisine. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) remains a popular choice for tourists with accommodation providers the likes of Somerset Chancellor Court Ho Chi Minh City offering an ideal base in the city. From the modern serviced apartments in Ho Chi Minh City, at such properties, travellers are once more experiencing the best of Vietnam and the proposed visa exemptions will serve to boost arrivals here further.
