Thailand’s tourism industry is experiencing a significant surge following the implementation of a visa-free policy for Chinese tourists. Already comprising a considerable portion of tourists in Thailand, data shows a substantial increase of 40% in visitor arrivals from China compared to regional competitors, including Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea. Experts attribute the other countries’ smaller figures to stricter visa policies amid Thailand’s increasingly lax travel scheme that extends to 93 countries.
This policy, enacted in early 2024, has streamlined the entry process for Chinese travellers, making Thailand a more accessible destination. The influx of Chinese tourists is bolstering Thailand’s economy, particularly in the hospitality and travel sectors. The best Bangkok resorts and hotels are preparing for more and more visitors after a dip during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the growing popularity of properties incorporating digital booking services such as Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort, and other modern hotels near the heart of the city.
