Visakha Bucha

Visakha Bucha This Month in Thailand – A Special Day for Buddhists

A sacred day for Buddhists in Thailand, Visakha Bucha is on 26th May this year. Also known as Vesak in some other countries, this day which falls on a full moon commemorates the birth of Lord Buddha as well as his enlightenment and the attainment of parinirvana following his death. On this day, devotees follow several observances and those staying at a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand may be able to observe some of them. This includes visits to the Wat Phra Kaew or Temple of the Emerald Buddha within easy reach of Maitria Hotel Rama 9 Bangkok and other well-placed properties in the city.

As part of the traditions of Visakha Bucha, Buddhists generally go to the temple in the morning where they offer food to monks as an act of making merit. In the evenings, devotees can usually be seen in processions carrying flowers and candles as they circle a temple clockwise three times to bring good luck and prosperity.
