The Kandy Esala Perahera, a tradition of Buddhist devotees of the country that has been passed down for generations is set to be held from the 2nd to 12th of August 2022. Hotels are expected to fill up during this season as tourists book vacations at Galle, Negombo, Sigiriya resorts, etc. whereas the latter is a more viable option to travel to the perahera with only a 2 and a half hours’ duration to Kandy from Hotel Sigiriya.
The Kandy Esala Perahera is organized every year to honor the most sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha, and also to obtain heavenly blessings from the Gods for showers of rain that nourish the land and its crops. The procession is set to take place in five parts, namely, Kandy Kumbal Perahera, Kandy Final Kumbal Perahera, Kandy Randoli Perahera, Kandy Final Perahera and Kandy Day Perahera.
