The Berjaya Group Executive Chairman, Sir Vincent Tan planned a rather good proposal to the government. Tan has an idea of constructing an airport in Tioman Island. The talk has been going on for some time and the government finally found Tan’s proposal satisfactory enough to let it proceed. This will benefit Tioman Island resorts as the location becomes more accessible to visitors. Occupancy in Berjaya Tioman Resort and other hotels are sure to rise.
Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin, Chairman of the State Committee on Tourism, Environment, Plantations and Biotechnology stated that the government practices an investor-friendly attitude and were willing to listen to Tan’s ideas and plans. However, they would have to take into account the damage that would be caused to the environment first before approving the construction. Additionally, Tan mentioned that all expenses will be accounted for by the company revenues and borrowings.
