World Tourism Day 2019 Celebrated in Sri Lanka

Continuing on the Road to Recovery

World Tourism Day 2019 which fell on 27th September was celebrated in Sri Lanka as the country’s tourism industry continued to bounce back following the tragic Easter bombings in April this year. Be it at a resort in Bentota or a hotel Kandy has to offer such as Kings Pavilion, tourist numbers are picking up which is encouraging. The celebrations included a series of special events in several parts of the island, while also focusing on the World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) theme of “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future for All”.

The events in Sri Lanka marking World Tourism Day 2019 began in Colombo where an inauguration ceremony was held on 27th September along with a job fair and a special Food Street zone. The following day, Arugam Bay in the east coast played host to a surfing event which was part of the World Surf League (WSL) that attracted surfers from around the world.
